Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Silver dragons are arguably one of the most beautiful types of dragons. They live in high altitude habitats such as mountains. Male silver dragons hunt and eat meat. While not as beautiful or radiant as females, silver males possess better physical attributes, such as strength.

Ionraic is most likely the only fully-grown dragon in the world who doesn't know his own name. He believes that it is actually Iron Racer and calls himself such, even when others call him by his true name. He and his mate, Cannuke, are the only dragons who can call themselves friends to the Vampire Twins, for they were his nestmates and often accompany Cannuke on her hunting flights. He is like nothing so much as a massive puppy, even to the point of curling up by the cave entrance to wait for his mate while she is out, and at one point refused eat for almost a week while awaiting her return. The only thing that drives him from his vigil is what keeps him from accompanying his mate, the impossible but undeniable hope that one day his mother will regain her sanity and see him as her son once again, and not the traitor who leapt between her and the Twins when she tried to kill them.
