Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.
And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don't grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling's wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.
The focus of Hanyou's days is to improve his abilities in flight. Possessing a superior natural ability for it, he is more skilled in flight than the other hatchlings, but his ambition drives him to continue and train to make himself better. His adoptive mother, Ginyoku, frequently has to tell him to go rest, as he will push himself to the point of exhaustion. Someday, and soon, he hopes to be able to travel as far as his adoptive father and mentor, Houyoku.
