Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Hatchlings spend a relatively long period of time as hatchlings, from 100 to 200 years, before they mature. Adolescence is usually marked by a hatchling's wings growing in, but not all breeds of dragons grow wings. Baby dragons all look very similar, but once they hit adolescence, they change very fast, they mature to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Skywing dragons spend most of their lives flying in the air. They hunt from the air, diving at prey from above, and land only to rest. They are one of the fastest fliers, capable of extremely high speeds. The webbing at the end of the tail acts as a rudder, allowing them to easily change direction during flight.

Okyrhoe's mother was a Mint dragon, while her father was a Skywing. Her old clan all thought that the Mint blood in her veins would make her weak and useless so she spent most of her hatchling time being bullied and mocked. But no matter how bad she was treated, Okyrhoe still kept her pride. She could never forget that her name was Hanna Okyrhoe. The names Hanna, which means 'favor' or 'grace', and Okyrhoe, which means 'fast-flowing', were given to her by her mother with the hope that someday she would be accepted as a true Skywing.

When Okyrhoe grew up into an adult, she left her old clan and went off to discover the world. The travelling life had strengthened her and gave her a lightning speed. Ten years after her leave, she was acknowledged by most clans as one of the fastest Skywings. Many dragon packs welcomed her, and sometimes she joined them for a short period. However Okyrhoe remained a sky nomad. The only place that she called home was among the clouds and the stars.
