Look, it's grown frills, and the glow around it has become even brighter.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don't grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling's wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.

Although Gyakuten is not the son of Pellamar, he hopes to someday follow in his footsteps.  He has not yet mastered the art of the dive bomb, but he is earnestly trying to improve his performance.  More than one hatchling has worn a lump as a result of his misjudged swoops.  Gyakuten once was practicing his technique alone at the edge of a clearing, and accidentally crashed into a lump of vines that ended up being Horynax the plant hatchling, who reacted by binding the young silver and attempting to drain the life from him.  Shugorei the guardian hatchling heard the struggle and came to Gyakuten's aid, slicing the vines with the sharp edge of her shield tail.   The two have since formed a fast friendship with a suspiciously romantic undertone.
