Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Gray dragons are the masters of the skies. They are excellent fliers and land only to rest and eat. In addition, they have full control of the weather. They are very hot-tempered and easily angered. They will attack any human that bothers them, conjuring strong winds and dangerous lightning.

As the first egg of the De clan to be recruited, the second to hatch and mature, Denoche shares a fairly lukewarm rivalry with his more stoic surrogate brother, Descudo the Guardian dragon. Desombra, the oldest of the De clan females and another Gray like himself, is often seen as Denoche's slightly more level-headed better half despite not being related in any way save species, a fact that doesn't escape, nor amuse, him. As for the rest of the clan, Denoche sees them as pests he has no choice but to watch over, if only so they don't go "and get themselves killed". He lies about caring, of course -- a fact Desombra will never falter to point out if only for his reaction.

Recently Denoche had been pestered about what he thinks of the fact that Deraiz, the crazy female vine dragon, apparently likes him...and the rumor that the gray and dark green eggs found nearby to be abandon were his. Denoche had said no...rather, via a hailstorm aimed at the ones asking him.
