Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
White dragons are pacifists and specialize in extremely strong healing magic. The only limit of this magic is that it can't bring back the dead. They only eat plants and never kill living things.
A graceful white dragon who originally hails from the French Alps (her name means "dove of peace" in French,) Colombe has a volatile life due to her pair-bond with the universally beloved Leonid Paris. Leonid is a caring and attentive mate, and his mother (who lives in the same cave complex) dotes on Colombe. However, many of the female dragons of Jekan Caverns are secretly or not-so-secretly jealous of her. She is frequently given the cold shoulder and is sometimes the victim of malicious gossip. Even dragons who don't have any problem with her themselves usually stay away from poor Colombe just to avoid all the drama. As a result of this, Colombe has developed an aloof demeanor and can come across as haughty or self-absorbed at first. (She sometimes pretends not to understand English very well, even though she was smuggled out of France as an egg!) In reality though, Colombe is gentle and loyal to her family and to any dragon or human who takes the time to befriend her.
