Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Bright-Howl is a reserved dragon who is a bit shy amongst her cave mates. She often wonders what her mom and dad were like and has a bit of a resentment towards her "keeper" for stealing her away. She does not care that her keeper is nice to her and feels that it is wrong how the other dragons obey and respect their keeper. She thinks dragons should break free and rebel against being pets or slaves to the humans who steal eggs away from wild dragons. Because she is shy she has not had a chance to really express these ideas to other dragons but she is constantly daydreaming about the day she and other dragons will break free. She sympathizes with Ne'igalomeatiga but feels Ne'igalomeatiga goes overboard in her desire to kill their keeper. She does feel it is wrong her owner tried to kill Ne'igalomeatiga's mother but she feels the problem more lies in that the humans need to learn that dragons are not their pets, things, or slaves.
