Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Green dragons are also sometimes called "earth" dragons. They usually live deep within caves, and have power over the earth. They are capable of launching boulders at high speeds, and can cause earthquakes by slamming down onto the ground.

Baitun lives deep in the heart of a mountain. He does not like to come out, but is forced to when he hunts for food. To minimize how often he has to leave his comfortable caves, he hunts a lot of prey when he does surface.  He then drags the kills back down with him, feeding on them over time.

Unfortunately, the carcasses do not age very well. Periodically, Baitun is faced with a choice of eating rancid meat or going out to hunt again earlier than he had planned. Since he really hates surfacing, usually he will try to eat the bad meat anyway. This leaves him with a violently queasy stomach, and sometimes he heaves quite a bit before spewing out the contents of his digestive tract.

Those living near the mountain believe it is a volcano, with earthquakes forewarning that an eruption will occur. Some believe the volcano erupts because a god living there is angry, and that sacrifices will appease it. In a way, this works, because the fresh meat keeps Baitun's stomach settled.
