Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Horse dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Areisuto has a passion for running and is often seen racing either through or around his clans territory. Despite being able to fly he prefers to run everywhere, taking only to the skies in times of emergency. He wishes he could live with his friend Ferhan at the home of the Cave Mistress but must wait for them to visit the rather extended dragon family before being able to play with him.

Although he is considered quite gentle by the Cave Mistress and the other dragons, Areisuto has a violent side he keeps hidden from them. He has a habit of challenging travellers to races in the middle of the night and if they can not beat him, he will devour both them and their steeds.
