Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Hatchlings spend a relatively long period of time as hatchlings, from 100 to 200 years, before they mature. Adolescence is usually marked by a hatchling's wings growing in, but not all breeds of dragons grow wings. Baby dragons all look very similar, but once they hit adolescence, they change very fast, they mature to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Stone dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Do not mess with Aithe if you intend to live. She resents any form of interference into her private affairs and hates to be roused from her slumber by anyone. This is extremely unfortunate, as she spends most of her time asleep and the chances of bothering her are thus much higher. In fact, she sleeps so much that hatchlings, mistaking her for a mound of rock, have been known to clamber over her back and use it as a playground. Thankfully for them, her scales are so thick that so far, she has not noticed. Aithe is probably THE single most anti-social dragon in Ysaedda's cave and is generally considered to be an incorrigible grouch.
