Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Chalk is a calm, collected little hatchling though he wasn't always that way. At one time he was a very rambunctious and impulsive little one but that all changed the day he 'died' and was revived. Really he wasn't killed, only knocked out, but he doesn't believe that. He thinks the Winged Wolf brought him back from the other side of death and worships the ground she walks on because of it. He won't listen to anyone that tries to tell him that he never died. His 'experience' with death has made him much more careful because of his belief that no one can be revived more than once and he doesn't want to take a chance of dying for real.
