Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Mariel is a strong, confident dragonness who knows exactly what she wants. She isn't afraid to go to any lengths for her desires, although she sometimes gets too caught up in her plans to even consider the consequences or others' interests. She dreams of becoming famous and well-known in the clan just like her role model, Tarja Turunen, the silver dragoness with a powerful singing voice.

As she can often be insensitive to other dragons' feelings, Mariel has made more enemies than friends in the clan. Still, she holds an affection to Aceon, the shy, self-conscious black marrow she knew as a hatchling; knowing his nature, she feels the need to always protect him.
