It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Manuella is a kind Purple dragon. She only has one hatchling, Mayte, whom she took in as her own and loves dearly. Mayte is Manuella's pride and joy and she makes sure that she gives Mayte everything that she did not have herself as a hatchling. Manuella does not have a mate and is perfectly satisfied as such. Rarely does she ever let her little hatchling out of her sight. When she was an egg, Manuella was abandoned by her parents and brought up by other dragons. This is probably the reason why she is so protective over Mayte, and also why she decided to take in the little Purple hatchling. She also has an off and on relationship with Miklos the Silver Dragon. However, Manuella usually wants nothing to do with him and ignores the hunky male dragon... except sometimes she gives in, then she turns around and ignores him all over again. She is such a tease.
