Ice Dragons are fierce predators who hunt using their extremely cold breath. The breath of an ice dragon can freeze its prey solid in seconds. The body of an ice dragon is so cold that icicles will form along its skin no matter the outside temperature.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ghiaccolo Maximo is lonely. He hunts brilliantly, and he was of great service during the Great Landslip Incident of 1987, when he managed to freeze the sodden earth before it slid over the cave entrance. He also makes fabulous skating rinks for the hatchlings to play on. But he cannot make friends. It's not that the others don't like him, it's just that no-one will talk to him since the day he sneezed and froze a couple of visitors from another cave solid. They made a good stew in the end, but still. The others are simply terrified of a repeat performance.

As for mating—he lives in hope that someone really hot will co-operate—and is eyeing Scarlett of Tara hopefully. He does so want children of his own. Though he fears he may never be able to cuddle them unless they are of his own kind.
