Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Heartfyre Flame, or Flame for short, is a young Red Dragon. Even though he looks very tough and kind of scary, he's really just a big softie. He is very sensitive, shy, kind, and very protective towards the eggs and hatchlings. He isn't brave at all, and often hides from the bigger, tougher dragons, like Trixie the Hellfire, or Firestar the Ember. He relies on his adoptive sister, Julie, to protect him from these stronger dragons. However, even though he's incredibly shy and quiet, he will stick up for his friends by using what he calls "The Stare", which is when he stares at the predator to intimidate them. He is often found tending to his flower garden outside the cave. He is afraid of humans, but doesn't mind ones he's known for a long time as much. He spends a lot of time with his mate, Fluffy Featherball the Pillow, at the park in Drakeville.
