Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Satini Holistarr Moonwing is a Ribbon Dancer that is always alone. The other dragons insist that dancing is a frivolous thing, a fool's hobby. They don't, unlike poor Satini, like dancing. They have other hobbies. But not dancing.

Satini's dream is to learn the Dragon's Dance. It is a complicated dance that her ancestors before her danced, and her ancestors before that. Alas, poor Satini's ancestors live far away in the Snowlands- a place too far away for her to fly to. So Satini has no mentor who will teach her how to dance the Dragon's Dance. And so she's rather sad all the time.

She lives in a large cave with a floor polished by her feet as she whirls and dances for an invisible audience, hoping to one day present the Dragon's Dance to them.
