Sunsong Amphipteres are an unusual breed. Due to light interference caused by their magical nature, they don’t seem to be affected by any ambient light source. However, when struck by direct sunlight, they shine a brilliant gold. They are playful and ever in flight; their ethereal and mysterious appearance and the fact that they are usually only seen at a distance have led many to believe they are a symbol of hope and good fortune.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Bookish and exceptionally highbrow, Seymour is considered one of the most ingenious members of the August Clan. His knowledge encompasses many factors: he is fluent in several languages, excellent at arithmetic, and is known to have charted all of the stars visible from his clan's territory. He can answer virtually any question regarding information on dragons, as well as many other animals. His brilliant mind often causes feelings of inferiority among the other dragons, especially the younger ones, but Seymour himself is not condescending. Instead, he offers his smarts as a way to better the organization and protection of the clan cave, as well as to educate those dragons who wish to learn more from him. Seymour's only downfall is a complete lack of "street smarts", to put it bluntly. He is an almost useless hunter and gatherer, and fighting is out of the question. Often the slang used by the younger dragons of the clan go right over his head. His unlikely, but good mate is Halcyon.
