Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Because Lunar Moonbeam and Solar Sunbeam were unable to have any offspring of their own, they willingly adopted an abandoned silver hatchling and named him Shining Moonglow. This little silver hatchling is very generous and kind, and all the other hatchlings treat him like an older brother. He is also nonviolent, and even butterflies will rest on his back.
