Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Crimson Firedrake once lived as a lone dragon, traveling across the land with his mate, Ambrosia Scales, and never settling down in one place. His entire survival depended on his brute strength and fiery breath. His life as a lone dragon ended, however, when he was nearly outmatched by a group of dragon slayers and barely escaped with his life. By chance, he was discovered, barely alive, by Ivory Starlight, the chief healer of Shield Tail and Dark Drakon's herd. Under her care, he recovered and soon joined the herd out of gratitude.

Despite being a part of a herd, Crimson Firedrake never completely forgot his life as a lone dragon. For that reason, he is the most belligerent dragon in Shield Tail and Dark Drakon's herd, and is always the first one to suggest fighting when a potential danger comes along.
