Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon... except for the tangle of dangerous-looking vines surrounding it...

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Shovel got his nickname from his deep enjoyment of digging holes wherever he might be at the moment the whim struck him. For a fair while, until he was taught where it was all right to dig the holes, most of the other dragons had to take care where they walked or wind up stepping into a hole. It was not long however before he got the idea of where was right and where wasn't and soon he was having a blast digging holes for a simple garden one of the other dragons had decided to start.
