Ultraviolet Dragons are a heat-loving breed that are most commonly found in hot, arid environments. These hardy dragons are omnivorous and will eat both plant and animal matter, even species with thorny physical defenses such as cacti. They are generally peaceful and often quite friendly, but males will become aggressive and cantankerous during the breeding season. Intense fights take place over females, sometimes resulting in injury for both combatants.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Vavinyn lives in a corrupted area of spacetime known as the Submachines that was created when some unknown entity carved a channel to let a pool of dark mana flood into one of time. He has chronic dreams of being a female shadow walker wyrmling called Vavi Nyn. He claims that she is real and in a draconic city on the northwest shore of the world. His sleep cycle is highly irregular—possibly tied to these dreams—much to the frustration of Elizabeth and the other dragons he works with.

Like a number of other dragons, he accidentally walked into the Submachines after they were created, and was initially found by Murtaugh. Mur's violent approach didn't suit Vavinyn's rational nature, and he joined Liz because her approach made sense. He tends to be disliked because of his unreliability, but when he maintains consciousness as himself he is quite skilled.
