Neotropical Dragons are a breed that originate in rainforests. They are fun-loving and enjoy lounging on tree branches, eating whatever fruit they find. They are also often found sunning themselves on rocks, using their large wings to soak up the rays. In the summer, males compete for mates by showing off their striped wings and gliding in spirals down the tree trunks. It is said that the larger the wings, the more likely the male will attract a suitable mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Since Zechariah was a hatchling he had dreamed of exploration and adventure, of far-away lands and strange creatures. Any time he had to himself he would spend playing in his fantasy worlds. When he grew up he noticed that the females in the group were terribly superficial, only giving him attention because of his wings. He longed for someone who would understand him and love him for his personality rather than his physical attributes. So he left.

Zechariah travelled to many places. He didn't stay in one place for too long, there would always be something else to discover. When he found himself on a grass-covered plateau, Zechariah met a Horse dragon called Esther. She visited him often and would listen to his stories of other lands with genuine interest.

The two fell in love and Esther left her family to travel with him. They eventually settled on a quiet island (not so quiet now) and Zechariah loves entertaining the hatchlings with the wild tales of his own youth.
