Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Xadar is a nighttime birdwatcher. He was startled once as a hatchling, by an owl that silently swept in and nabbed the mouse he was stalking. Fascinated by the silent flight and efficient attack, he started studying owls and trying to emulate them. He has learned how to hold his wings for a silent dive at prey, and can imitate the hoots of several breeds of owls.  

His excellent night vision makes it relatively easy for Xadar to spot a variety of night fliers, and he keeps a record of what he has seen. With some well-timed spells and his hunting abilities, he has managed to catch (for closer study) many of the creatures he has observed. He also uses his magic to perform taxidermy, preserving the bodies of those that do not survive his studies; his lair is a museum for flying nightlife.
