Nebula Dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula Dragons will be exactly the same.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Anon was found by Horsie as a hatchling. She and Black Onyx are the only two Nebulae in Horsie's cave that are not related to the rest of the Nebulae, who are each in some way or another part of an extensive family. She chose her name because it means "unknown," like herself. She isn't sure who she is or where she's from. She feels left out by almost everyone: they all have large families or long-time friends to hang out with, while she wasn't even part of a "batch of eggs" that Horsie brought in. She's in between the cave "generations" and didn't grow up with other hatchies to play with. The only one who really pays attention to her is Black Onyx, who has had a crush on her since the first time he laid eyes on her. Anon, whose nickname was given to her by Onyx because it means "soon" and he believes she will find herself soon, has a slight suspicion that Onyx likes her but is much too shy and "lost" to even admit it to herself. Though she does rather like him quite a lot, too.
