Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shimmer Red is the only vampire in her group who has a shimmerscale dragon's blood on her fangs; she got into a fight with one when a bronze shimmerscale pushed her out of his way like he owned the forest. In a fit of rage, Shimmer Red attacked. Horrified by her actions, she ran from her only home in the forest and ran into a cave. However, she did not notice that an ice dragon was watching her from afar. A few days later, Shimmer Red was visited by another female vampire, one she would later call her leader: The Would Be Shimmer. She then noticed an ice dragon standing guard in front of the cave. She looked at The Would Be Shimmer with interest and immediately joined. Since then, she completely adored the ice dragon, whom she now calls An Ice Warrior.
