Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Albino dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.
Clarios Clear-Wings is a sullen and quiet male dragon. He prefers to not speak, but when he does, it is usually to tell someone to stop or to guide someone. He guards his home with his life, and has on one occasion attacked an adult male dragon who happened to stray by. He is highly respected, as he was the very first resident of this Cave. He prefers the fall season, when things are just beginning to cool down but are not freezing. He is nicknamed the Pale Fang.
