Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hubris has never been sure if his name was a warning to him to keep him from getting too proud, or to others to keep them from envying his gold scales, saying there was a price to be paid to be too beautiful. If it was intended to him, it worked to a limited extent. He's not so proud to think himself invulnerable. But on the other hand, he's convinced that he's the most gorgeous dragon in Nadat's cave, and, in fact, anywhere. This pride makes it hard to keep friends, so he tends to have superficial relationships with the newer adult dragons until they realize he's obsessed with his own shine.
