Golden Wyverns are known for their beautiful metallic scales and rumored magical abilities. Living high in the mountains, these dragons do not believe in killing for sport or pleasure. They will hunt only when hungry and defend themselves when provoked, but will avoid killing to the best of their abilities. Golden Wyverns often mingle with other dragons of similar color and take pride in their shimmering hide.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shimmerleaf was traded to another owner a couple of days after she hatched, away from her parents. On top of that the owner was new, so she didn't have any company. When she was a bit older she got her first ever company, an ember dragon called Ashembere. She was very happy with this and played with Ashembere all the the time. When she grew up and Ashembere matured, she taught her to fly, although she struggled. When Ashembere grew up, the two dragons were still best friends and would protect each other with their lives. She loves all fire dragons as they remind her of Ashembere and, like she did with her, taught all them to fly when they matured. Ever since Sir Vinea Draco quarreled with her about who is the rarest, Shimmerleaf made a vow never to even look at a vine dragon.
