This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Just like the other vampires of the cave, Otto is both feared and hated by the clan members. At first there was only one vampire in the cave, Bethelgard, now there are four. Otto is just a hatchling now but, the clan members are begging the Archbaron to rid the cave of the 'infestation'. To them, it is clear that Bethelgard doesn't care for the rules laid out by the Archbaron and is biting eggs. Otto is protected because he is a hatchling and the Archbaron has sworn to never turn away a child. However, the other hatchlings cower in his presence or act hatefully towards him. He has no friends, and he sulks in the corners and shadows of the cave, glaring at the others. No one knows what he is thinking about, but, they all know it isn't good...
