Pillow Dragons are covered in enormous amounts of fur affectionately referred to as fluff. Despite their deceivingly large size, they can still fly even with such tiny wings because their bodies are remarkably light. Pillow Dragons have a habit of sleeping for up to eighteen hours a day, waking only in short bursts. During their few waking hours, they take the time to hunt for prey. Once a pillow dragon becomes an adult, its fur grows very slowly. Pillow dragon fur is used to make very expensive and valuable cloth known as “dragon cashmere.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As a hatchling, this Pillow dragon loved to sneak into the cottage of the human Dimar, who was a friend to the clan and helped tend to their young. Dimar spent a lot of her time composing letters and laughing as she did so, and one day the hatchling entered the cottage while Dimar was writing.

"Herk is the best pillow", the human said to herself with a bit of sadness in her voice. Overhearing, the hatchling became confused. She knew all of the pillow dragons in the clan, and there was not a single one named Herk! That must be why the gentle young woman was sad, the dragon reasoned. So, she promptly named herself Herk to fill that void and make her caretaker smile.

Herk is an adult dragon now, but she remains proud of the fact that she is the BEST pillow. The other dragons know, of course, that the real Herk is another human with a close relationship to Dimar. But Dimar does love to snuggle with Herk the Pillow regardless, so everything is good.
