Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Selemanth had a difficult start in life. She was separated from her biological family at a very early age, and thus has no memory of them. Her deepest desire was to find a family that was truly hers. During her early time in the cave, an adult pink dragon named Amalene provided much of Selemanth's care and supported and advised the young dragonet in choosing perpetual childhood. In fact the relationship went so deep that Selemanth's permanent name was chosen from names within Amalene's ancestry, cementing her status as Amalene's adopted daughter. The little black dragon no longer feels such a drive to seek out her biological family, and though the relationship has had its share of difficult moments, their friendship and filial love always brings them back together.
