Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has two tails!

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Thou Asketh Much of Me, usually known as Aks, was so named as it was a girl who was sorely wished for when his egg was stolen. Already the Marble Cup Cavern had 2 male Swallows, an adult and a frozen hatchling. With no female pinks in the cave to influence him, the only thing the other dragons could do was hope and pray for a girl. And at first they held out hope, but as he grew older, it became apparent that Aks was not the girl they had asked for.

Despite this disappointment, the interest they had had in him meant that they could not bear the idea of losing him to another cave, and so requested his freezing so that he could be kept forever. Aks however resents being kept, feeling that he is somehow unworthy of his place, and often cries when the others cannot see him, knowing, every time he so much as hears his name, that he wasn't really wanted.
