Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Olsian had never planned to continue his father's research, as he wasn't much of a storyteller and felt that adding pictures only detracted from a tale. Then, one winter, he found himself presented with a dozen rowdy and demanding hatchlings to entertain and keep out of trouble. Even with the elaborately detailed illusions that had been his father's specialty, the traditional tales couldn't hold the hatchlings' attention for more than a minute or two. However, simpler illusions that moved proved surprisingly engrossing. By the time spring finally arrived, Olsian had developed a whole repertoire of picture-stories, and had gained a reputation as a master hatchling-entertainer. In truth, he's not especially fond of hatchlings, but does enjoy having an appreciative audience.
