Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Dilthengamp had suffered a grievous injury from a wild dog after wandering away from his mother and getting lost within the deep forest that borders the territory of the Digi Clan. The Guardian of the Digi Clan accidentally stumbled across the dying hatchling while speaking with the spirits of the forest. Seeing no alternative, The Guardian was forced to freeze Dilthengamp, for there was no other way the injury would have been survivable. With the life of the hatchling now in her hands, and knowing that the mother would never accept the poor hatchling back, The Guardian brought the young Dilthengamp back to the Clan where they all await for the hatchling to gain the courage to play and romp as all hatchlings are wont to do.
