Albino Dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Jemmen studies geology with the best of the humans at the greatest of the schools. He doesn't have a scholarship but everyone is just too scared to tell the giant dragon that he needs to pay. The professors tolerate him and the students adore him, so Jemmen doesn't feel very much out of place. He has trouble fitting in the classrooms so he just sits outside in the courtyard and listens in through the window. Having Jemmen on the student list does wonders for the college's Equal Opportunities forms and the albino dragon is always happy to fly off to some faraway land to collect some rock samples, so the college tries their best to make Jemmen happy. Buses became obsolete with the introduction of Jemmen-Airways, though people often slide off his slimy skin (thankfully he can catch them before they hit the ground). The nurse has a certain soft spot for Jemmen, and he for her, as he brings her exotic flowers and she bandages up his cut and bruised body from a hard day of digging.
