Antarean Dragons are peaceful creatures shrouded in mystery. They are primarily found in the desert where they get most of their energy from sunbathing. Their most notable traits are their highly reflective manes and the mysterious light emitted by their scales which fades from bright, nearly blinding yellow-white into dim red as the dragons get older. Legend claims that they are otherworldly beings that came to this world when a meteor struck.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

In her mixed-dragon group, the oldest antareans Antarea knows are a brother-sister pair only a decade or so older than she is. Since they were all raised by different types of dragons, none of them know much about themselves and were all surprised with how they turned out. To Antarea's knowledge, hatchlings start out bright and dim to orange as they age. If it took 35 years for her to become this tone, she surmises she would be a handsome dark brown in maybe 35 more. She can't wait for that time.
