Valentine eggs are only seen once a year. Adults’ mating seasons are very short, usually spanning a few weeks in the mid-to-late winter. These dragons were once reputed to be omens of good luck in love.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

After hearing stories about the shadow walkers who brought the Yuletide spirit to the curmudgeonly or otherwise unpleasant, Garathef decided that something similar should be arranged for dragons who had cast love out of their lives. She had only planned to supervise, but when no suitable dragon could be found for the Spirit of Valentine's Past, she decided to take on the role herself. After Nasimi imitates a lost friend or loved one from the target dragon's past, Garathef swoops in to share instances when said dragon loved or was loved (gathered from her network of pygmy dragon spies). Garathef possesses the necessary mix of solemnity and humor the role requires and is also intimidating enough to be taken seriously.
