Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Clan Raifteiri is part of a family of Ridgewings migrated into Alba from a neighbouring island. As Ridgewings are a friendly and playful breed, the Alban Ridgewings gladly welcomed their western cousins into their territory. Clan's family members are a particularly vocal group, forever humming or chanting their favourite tunes in imitation of the poems and songs of humans. Young Clan loves nothing better than to sneak into human towns at night and listen at their windows, remembering the tunes he hears and bringing them home with him the following morning.
