This breed of dragon results from eggs or hatchlings that have been neglected. They are usually rebellious, not obeying their masters, sometimes even attacking them. However, their neglect as a hatchling leaves them crippled, and they are weak compared to other breeds, causing them to stay with their masters for protection.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kael Drakkal does not know why she feels such a strong pull to defend others. After all, her physique is less than sturdy. Thin and frail, that does not stop her from keeping watch over Aros 'Thalinor, another Neglected residing with her in the fold. More than a few times, Kael has had to interject herself between a frantic Aros and her desperate attempts to swim in the sea. She withstands the battering Aros inflicts without faltering, until Aros finally backs down grudgingly. Kael is never satisfied until Aros is safely back at the fold and away from the breaking surf.

No other dragon interferes with Kael's self-appointed guardianship of Aros. They learned quickly to leave Kael to her task, as her temper is quick and fierce, and her bite quite sharp. Her dedication to protecting Aros is of a kind only seen within Guardian dragons; Kael might not look like one, but her mannerisms are the same, and other Guardians in her fold have taken notice.
