Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Once, Forwo had it all—a mate, children, loyal subjects, gold and jewels in abundance. Then, he lost everything in the blink of an eye to the same magical fog that cost so many lives. It didn't consume Forwo, but he emerged into a world far different than the one he'd known. Tinsel dragons were mere legend, their resurgence still years away, and his distinctive appearance made him an easy target for human hunters. When Forwo did finally encounter other tinsels, they were vain, spoiled, selfish creatures—only a pale shadow of the ones he'd known. Disgusted, he went in search of proper dragons, no matter what their breed—dragons who still embodied the ideals of nobility, dignity, and wisdom. Valor Goldenblaze wasn't quite what Forwo had in mind, but at least the gold dragon was willing to accept him as a mentor.
