Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Gruyere is unsure what is wrong with it. It tries very hard to be a good dragon, but it can never seem to do what other dragons do. Gruyere is a very bad hunter and can never catch anything faster than a snail. Gruyere cannot run fast like Horse Dragons nor sail through the sky like Skywings. Gruyere once tried to swim in the nearby lake like the Water Dragons but all that happened was that Gruyere turned into an unpalatable slimy mess. After that Gruyere avoided the water and resigned himself to being a useless dragon.
