Storm Dragons are the masters of the skies. They are excellent fliers and land only to rest and eat. In addition, they have full control of the weather. They are very hot-tempered and easily angered. They will attack any human that bothers them, conjuring strong winds and dangerous lightning.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Lyle is Kaia's adopted son, He is a wily one, not given to patience, but nonetheless loves his adopted mother. His true mother was killed by a rogue black dragon who tried to smash his egg and force her to carry his own offspring. She defended him with his life and contacted Kaia in her dreams to save her egg as her dieing wish. Kaia has spared Lyle of knowing this, and in a way, he believes he is of the same species as his mother which has made raising him very difficult, especially when he developed his powers. Kaia has explained his abilities to him as the need arises but he's always felt there may be things she isn't telling him, and they have argued over it on several occasions. Though he cannot learn healing magic, she teaches him how to use herbal remedies, which he vaguely pays mind to.
