Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Although most of her ancestors are male, Erno's Tarnished Alloy decided while still in the comfort of her egg that she would like to take after her mother. While some referred to her mother as a mistake, Tarnished Alloy felt that a lineage resembling a slow winding spiral staircase would be quite beautiful, and her fate was set. She would become the second female Silver Tinsel dragon in her line. After she made up her mind, she felt it would be best to discuss it with her family so it did not shock them. For the most part, she they greeted her with love and acceptance. However, her cousin, Wreathed Erno of the Swamp, teased her mercilessly about her decision to discard tradition, but she would not be swayed. She lives out her days in quiet with her pink mate, Mr Whetted.
