Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This dragon was named after its master, Phineas Nigellus of the noble and most ancient House of Black, headmaster of Hogwarts. The most unpopular headmaster to be exact, although no one dared to tell him that in his face, or they would meet a terrible fate. Few people knew that that fate was to be fed to this little dragon with a huge appetite, which was kept by the headmaster in a hidden room next to his office. Unfortunately, there was no space in the room to grow up, so the dragon stayed small forever.

After the death of headmaster Phineas Nigellus, his dragon escaped and went to live in a nearby cave. He was later reunited with the other secret house dragons of the House of Black.
