Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Two-Finned Blunas are a very social breed of dragon, living in packs of dragons called "pods." Blunas are very curious and playful creatures and several dragons in a pod will often "play" with one other, chasing each other around, tossing seaweed back and forth, and riding ocean swells. They are occasionally seen swimming alongside whales and dolphins.

The bluna of the JavaTiger clan, Rainwing is quite remarkable. A member of a curious and energetic breed, Rainwing loves to explore the caves and sea coves of the clan's territory. As a member of a unique race of dragons, he is capable of both swimming and flight. He prefers fish to animal meats for food, a fact that some of the land bound dragons find odd, though he has convinced a few of them to give seafood a try. He can be quite persuasive, and is never at a loss to present his case on an issue; a fact that both his faction and his clan find invaluable. Mostly though, he is a calm and peaceful dragon, and chooses not to get involved in the inter-factional arguments that sometimes arise in the clan. This is because he can see the merits of both Air and Water, and is torn between the two.
