Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Albino dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.

Thin-Skinned Thuwed is well known in the cave for having his head constantly pointing to the ceiling.  He can never comment on the latest piece of news or share stories with the hatchlings for the peculiar reason that, as a youngling, he suffered a terrible neck injury that left him unable to change his view of the world.  He still attempts to crack jokes once in a while but they get little to no laughter, mostly because he speaks too softly to be heard if he isn't yelling.
