Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Averil and her close friend Iryth are the main fighting force in the family. They are responsible for ensuring that dragons from other clans do not encroach too far into the territory and to keep out any rivals during mating season.

Averil is slightly older than Iryth and is far more sensible. She tries to persuade trespassers to leave before resorting to violence and in most cases is successful. However there are always dragons that try to push their luck and Averil has to use her sharp teeth and magical skills to get her point across.

She specializes in blinding and paralyzing her opponents, allowing her to easily drag them far from the territory and leaving them somewhere safe until the ailments wear off. If the same dragon tries again, she will use more disabling methods, such as tearing off a limb.
