Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It seems to want to go outside whenever there is a storm.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Chadtwig's mother has always been keen on the life sciences, and he has taken after her. After the storms dissipate and there are no more good currents to ride, he likes to go out and survey the damage and effects on local wildlife. One day Chadtwig was out and about and he chanced across a very interesting beetle. He didn't know all that much about insects of any sort, but knew from his insectivorous sister-in-law that there was a lot to know about bugs, so he captured it and made a lot of notes concerning its behaviour and appearance. The next time the family went to the city, he went to the entomology department to file his bug report.
