Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. No matter where it goes or what you do, you find this hatchling staring at you.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

When Rifjor announced her plans to go after Illik, Caxteno knew he had to tag along. Rifjor was capable of taking care of herself, but two hatchlings would get much further than one. Though Rifjor got to perform most of the heroic deeds, Caxteno did get his chance to shine when he used his uncanny stare to get Marissia to say where she'd left Illik. She might have cast the growth-halting spell on him as a parting blow, but that just made it easier to take care of Illik after the trio made it home.
