Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dark Rebellion, abandoned as an egg, hatched uncertain and afraid.  A shy young Mint from the nearest cave quickly befriended the lonely little Dorsal, and the two became close friends, spending long hours talking about ideals of friendship and community. Reb, as she is still called, blossomed with Mentha's friendship, and meeting his other friends, Lapis Ocean Sky and Dark Paris, became dear friends with Lapis, but always argued with Paris.  When the four headed west to put their dreams into action, Paris and Rebellion bickered about every little thing.  Unlike her friends, she did not realize Dark Paris had a massive crush from the first time he saw her.  He ran away from his family to live near her among the other abandoned hatchies, committing his life to her.  They quarreled, yet he was still there whenever she needed anything.  Arriving in Verdant, as both looked for caves in the near mountains, she finally saw how he cared about her, and she about him, certain and unafraid.
